Thanks to everyone who came out to JCBC’s Autumn Festival! We had a lot of fun making and hanging up tanabata, sharing soba and green tea, and getting to hang out with all of you!

Credits to Kimberly Nguyen for taking the first picture of JCBC’s lanterns with a gorgeous view of Gasson Hall in the background!

Our Service Chair has been chosen! Please welcome Jonathan Higa to this year’s executive board of JCBC! Jonny is a sophomore in BC’s College of Arts & Sciences. He’s studying Music and is also a part of The Heightsmen, the only all–male a cappella on campus. He will be in charge of continuing our volunteering efforts for Japan Relief, so he’s your go–to if you’re looking to get involved!

JCBC is looking to recruit one more person as our Service Chair, which will only be available this year! The Service Chair will continue our volunteering and fundraising efforts to aid Japan in its time of need after the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011.

If you check out U.S. Geological Survey: National Earthquake Information Center — Earthquake Hazards Program, you can see that there is no shortage of earthquakes that continue to affect Japan today. Although this may be “old news” to the media, the aftereffects are still there, traumatizing victims and their loved ones, and they should not be ignored.

Last year, Japan relief volunteers at BC raised over $20,000 altogether, and we would like to keep these efforts going through the help of a Service Chair, who could be you! If you are interested, please contact us via email at jcbccontact@gmail.com and we will respond with an interview slot. Good luck!

Our Service Chair has already been selected. Please stay tuned for our next update to find out who it is!

If you missed out on our e–board video at JCBC’s First General Meeting, here it is again! Thank you so much to Michael Le for compiling our video for us! We also have a bunch of new events coming up this year including:

  • Autumn Festival
  • Exchanging Encounters
  • Film Festival
  • Haunted House
  • Japanese New Year
  • Tea Ceremony

Do you know about the Showa girls? They are international students from Showa Boston University, who come to Boston for an 18–month program for English and American culture immersion. Don’t be shy and say hi to them at our events and outings!

Freshman Representatives

If you are a freshman who’s interested in becoming involved with Asian Caucus or one of its culture clubs (like JCBC!), you should consider becoming a freshman representative! Freshreps shadow their e–board for the school year and learn what it’s like to manage and maintain a club and its events. It’s a worthwhile experience to make friends with your e–board, your membership, and other clubs on campus!

Please submit an Asian Caucus: Freshman Representative — Common Application with up to three clubs for which you would like to try out by Sunday, September 25 at midnight. If JCBC is one of your choices, please fill out the JCBC: Freshman Representative — Application (It’s easy; promise!) by Sunday, October 2 at midnight and then you will be emailed with an interview slot. Good luck!
